If you have begun 9th grade in the 2008-2009 academic year or before, you will begin a four-year plan in one of nine Career Pathways. Each of these are listed below; view the available pdfs for full details including possible college majors.

Career Pathways
Agriculture and Natural Resources Technologies
This pathway deals with sales and marketing of agricultural products; agricultural economics; conservation and protection of our natural resources; forests and forest machinery management; production of plants, trees, and shrubs for home and businesses; horticultural business management; crop, poultry, and livestock production and management; animal health care; and providers of supplies and services for all mentioned areas.
- High School Focus: Agriculture Education
Biological and Chemical Technologies
This pathway is involved in food science, nutrition, agriscience, and environmental science activities. It is considered with food production, packaging, and distribution; quality control; processing and development of food products; food sales and research; research laboratory environments; care for testing of experimental plants and living cells; conservation and improvement of environmental resources; managing forest crops and forest equipment.

Business Technologies
This pathway features careers in all areas of business. Careers are found in the areas of accounting and finance for businesses and individuals; business administration and management; small business management; entrepreneurship; planning, promoting merchandising, and selling fashion apparel; processing, managing, and communication of information by computers; directing the transfer of goods and services from producer to consumer; office, project, and human resource management; office administration; sales; and in the marketing of travel, tourism and recreation activities.

Commercial and Artistic Production Technologies
In this pathway, employees use state-of-the-art equipment to design and produce newspapers, magazines, reports, advertising information, and other graphic images. Also included in this pathway are careers intended to enhance the beauty or aesthetic qualities of interior spaces.
- High School Focus: Family and Consumer Science Education; Technology Education; and Trade and Industrial Education.
Construction Technologies
This pathway involves a wide variety of construction activities. These activities include general carpentry work, cabinet making and installation; framing and hanging of wall, doors, and windows; furniture design and production; installation, repair and
maintenance of electrical systems for building and equipment; and building walls, doors, fireplaces, and other structures using a variety of masonry materials and techniques.

Engineering Technologies
This pathway involves careers, which use CADD and other complex tools and software to design, draw, and produce computer-generated drawings of environmental and structural models and to control machines used in design and manufacturing. They also design, build, install, and repair developmental and production electronic systems and equipment; produce, process, and market plants, trees, and shrubs for home and commercial use; manage and maintain horticultural businesses and use computers to generate charts, 3-D graphics, and animations used in engineering, architecture, and science.

Health Sciences
This pathway prepares workers to deliver health care services to individual patients, clients or groups. They gather information to form diagnoses, develop treatment and care regiments to maintain or improve health, document client/patient care, provide safe and healthy surroundings for the delivery of health care/maintenance, and provide the community with wellness information, resource management, and health education.

Industrial Technologies
Workers in this pathway install, maintain, and/or service electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and plumbing systems; design, manufacture, and market fabrics; and fabricate and repair metal products using metal working and welding processes.
- High School Focus: Technology Education and Trade and Industrial Education.
Public Service Technologies
Workers in this pathway may be involved in cosmetology, food service production, food service management, sales, early childhood education, law enforcement, postal service, recreation and other public service areas.

Transport Systems Technologies
This pathway includes collision repair, rebuilding and refinishing of auto bodies, as well as the maintenance and repair of all transportation vehicles.

Are you on track?
Here is a checklist for your four-year plan:
9th Grade - Freshman Year
- Research different careers you are interested in.
- In addition, it would be a good idea to take a number of interest inventories and personality tests. You should also strive for good grades and get involved in extracurricular activities.
- High school is expensive. Start helping your parents by saving your money.
- Study hard. GPA (Grade Point Average) counts and will follow you throughout high school and into college.
10th Grade - Sophomore Year
- Meet with your school’s guidance team and discuss your options with your parents.
- Update your four-year plan.
- Decide which classes you should take.
- Take PSAT.
- Consider different careers and post high school avenues.
- Begin thinking about college.
11th Grade - Junior Year
- Update your four-year plan.
- Start looking at college information.
- Attend College Night at local mall.
- Find out about financial aid.
- Investigate earning college credits—tuition-free.
- Think about people who could write you a recommendation for scholarships, college
applications, and/or job possibilities. - Register and take the SAT and/or ACT.
- Visit campuses that you might be interested in attending.
- Start building a personal portfolio that would include a resume, letters of recommendation,
awards, and statement about your future plans. - Look into internship/apprenticeship opportunities.
- Learn job application and interview skills.
- Take ASVAB - Talk with local recruiters - Explore different branches of military.
12th Grade - Senior Year
August - December
- Request application forms, catalogs and financial aid information from colleges.
- Visit college campuses.
- Get as much information as possible that will help you in making decisions on what to do after graduation.
- REMEMBER DEADLINES - scholarships, college applications, SAT, etc.
- Meet with your guidance counselor to review your applications and get copies of your transcripts.
- KEEP UP YOUR GPA.
January - March
- Send in applications, etc.
- Complete the Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Time is approaching to make big decisions. Are you ready?
March - May
- Keep up with letters that you receive from possible employers, the military or colleges.
- Inform them of your plans.
- Request that your final transcripts be sent to the college you are attending.
- Walk across the stage and hold your head high ...You did it!
